Andrew A. Stewart Place-based design, Argyll
Brands built from the stories beneath them.
I'm Andrew Stewart, a brand & digital designer on the west coast of Scotland. I make brands and visual identities rooted in Argyll, shaped by its landscape, history and the people who live here.
Selected works
Brands & projects, rooted in place.
A few recent projects, from a local drum tutor to an industrial firm and a heritage map of Kilmartin Glen.
Argyll Rhythm
Brand & identity · Design & Development · Print
Identity and brand design project for a drum & percussion tutor in Mid Argyll. One hand-drawn line reads as both a waveform and the hills of the glen, energetic, friendly and unmistakably local.
Music tuition, Lochgilphead
Onsite Blasting Scotland
Brand & Identity · Website · Signage
A bold, structural mark for a Scottish sandblast cleaning firm, built to stay legible at distance on vans, signage and workwear.
Industrial services
Kilmartin Interactive Map
Worldbuilding · Map design · Interaction design
Identity and a full icon set for an interactive guide to Kilmartin Glen's standing stones and rock art. Gold on navy and celestial, themed on "as above, so below."
Heritage,What I do
Design with a sense of place.
Identities rooted in place
Names, marks, colour and type that feel like they belong to where you're from, never borrowed from somewhere else.
Thematic worlds
Whole visual systems built around one strong idea, like the Kilmartin map, with icons, motifs and maps that tell a single story.
Place & print
Packaging, signage and maps drawn from the landscape they belong to, the physical side of a brand, done properly.
How I work
A simple, four-step way of working.
- 01
Get to know you
We talk through your business, your customers and the place you come from. No jargon, no nonsense, just us.
- 02
Find the angle
I find the one idea your brand should stand on, the thing that's true about you and your place, and worth saying out loud.
- 03
Shape the identity
I build the whole thing by hand, the marks, palette, type and the world it lives in, working until it feels rooted and right.
- 04
Set you up to run it
Files, simple guidelines and templates, so your brand keeps working long after the project's done.
About
I'm Andrew, a place-based designer on the west coast.
I'm Andrew A. Stewart, the designer behind Northmarker. I'm drawn to work with a strong sense of place, brands and projects that could only come from where they're from. I work with you directly, start to finish, from a desk above Loch Fyne in Argyll.
If you'd rather your brand sounded like you, and like where you're from, than like everyone else, we'll get on well.

What you can count on
You deal with me
One designer, start to finish. You always know who's doing the work and who to call.
Built to last
No throwaway trends. Brands designed to still look right in five years, not just at launch.
Yours, properly
Every mark starts from something true about you and your place, never borrowed from somewhere else.
Tell me about your project.
Whether it's a full brand, a thematic project or something rooted in your own part of the world, drop me a line and I'll get back to you personally.
